FLEXIBLE HYSTEROSCOPY

THE DESCRIPTION OF THE METHOD.

Hysteroscopy is the only technique that uses the optical system of endoscope (and the eyes of the doctor) to make a detailed evaluation of the inside of the uterus.

The invention of hysteroscop with fiberoptics gave a start to the development of ambulatory hysteroscopy at the end of the 20th century. Modern hysteroscops are very small in diameter (1, 3 – 4,9mm) and so flexible that it allows to perform the procedure without the dilation of the cervix. That makes hysteroscopy a painless and comfortable procedure. Endoscopy Department of Severstahl Medical Service has been performing hysteroscopy since 2000. It is one of the few medical facilities in the North-West of Russia where hysteroscopy is done at the outpatient department. This is very important for the patients because it does not affect their quality of life. More than 2400 hysteroscopies were performed for the last 8 years. This procedure was highly appreciated by the patients from Cherepovets and other parts of Vologda region and Russia and also by the foreign patients. They speak of hysteroscopy as of well-tolerated procedure which is gone through much better than the endoscopy of stomach, large intestine or bronchi. There were no complications after hysteroscopy during the period mentioned and they hardly happen at all according to medical literature. It goes without saying that this technique requires special “delicate” equipment and instruments and their careful preparation before the use but it compensates for the anesthesia and hospitalization expenses. The procedure becomes more effective when a qualified gynecologist and endoscopist work together so their cooperation is highly advisable. Modern hysteroscopy helps to diagnose the early stages of endometrial diseases both benign and malignant which allows to start the treatment in good time including hysteroscopy as well.
